Excitement is mounting amongst younger children from our village (and beyond) that Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun will be back from Sunday April 11th at 9.00am!
The usually weekly event in Ruddington’s Country Park has been cancelled for just over a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic – which, of course, led to Government restrictions on large gatherings. However, the green light has just been given to restart Parkrun for four to ten year-olds.
With exactly one week to go, volunteer organisers have been checking the kit, putting up information posters and out walking the course again this morning (Sunday 4th April) – working out how best to run the popular event in a ‘COVID secure’ way.
The key points they’ve outlined so far are:
- Only children aged 4 to 10 years old may take part until further notice.
- Adults will need to ‘socially distance’ at all times, and support children where practical.
- The pre-run briefing and warm up will be kept short to minimise the time gathered before – and also afterwards.
- Participants need to bring printed barcodes as usual. If you’re new to Parkrun, you’ll need to complete a one-off registration online beforehand.
- Participants will need to be considerate of other park users and maintain trust by role-modelling social distancing, showing respect for others, etc.
Despite continuing restrictions, they promise the ‘Parkrun magic’ will still be the same – ‘social, active, community’!
A spokesperson says: “We’re very grateful to Head Ranger Alastair and team at Rushcliffe Country Park for their support. Alastair and Sarah {pictured above} walked the route last week to discuss how our event can return safely and appropriately, in line with Parkrun’s COVID-19 framework.”
The statement adds: “A huge thanks also to all our volunteers for being so enthusiastic to return to high vis! Get in touch if you’d like to join the team.”
